About the Author: An unashamed super fan of all things paranormal romance, Jessa Russo reads, writes and breathes paranormal YA, rarely straying from her comfort zone. When not writing or reading--or raising the coolest kid ever--Jessa enjoys making memories with her amazingly supportive family and friends, while secretly planning her next trip to New Orleans. She will always call Southern California home, where she lives with her husband and daughter, and a Great Dane who thinks he's the same size as his cranky sister, the Chihuahua.

Interview

1.       What inspired you to become an author?
Quite honestly, it was the Twilight Saga. I know that sounds terribly cliché, but there you have it. I hadn’t been reading much as an adult—didn’t think I had time—but my friend convinced me to read Twilight after I’d been teasing her for loving a book that was written for people half her age, and I was instantly obsessed. That all-consuming feeling was relentless, and after I finished the series, my love of reading was restored, and a new passion had been ignited. That was when I knew I was meant to be a writer.
2.       How did you come with Ever?
I have no idea. I wish I had some awesome anecdote about a dream or an “aha” moment, but I honestly don’t remember anything like that happening with The Ever Trilogy.
3.       Is there going to be a third book?
Absolutely. And hopefully soon. I don’t want to wait another year before publishing the third book, but I had to set it aside to finish ARK OF DREAMS, and I have one other idea in the works, so it will be a month or two before I get back to writing the third installment of The Ever Trilogy.
4.       Who is your favorite author?
I’d say Jeaniene Frost, Richelle Mead and Karen Marie Moning are all up there at the top of my list.
5.       Do you like to read? If so what kind of books?
YES! I’d read all day every day if I had nothing else to do! I love paranormal romance, heavy on the romance, and I am obsessed with anything young adult. So, give me a young adult paranormal romance, and I’m a happy girl. I even love all the hated clichés like love triangles, “suddenly” coming into powers you didn’t know you had, bad boys with good hearts under all their baggage,  or two super-hot guys competing for an average girl who doesn’t know she’s beautiful. I’m a sucker for that stuff.
6.       What advice can you give to a new writer?
Take your time in learning your craft and finding your voice. ALWAYS find a critique partner worth his/her salt . . . and no matter how you choose to publish, GET A DECENT EDITOR and always hire a proofreader. Do your research.
7.       Have you ever wrote any books besides Ever?
I have completed two other manuscripts. DIVIDE is an upper young adult fantasy—a fairytale redux of Beauty and the Beast mashed up with a little Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde twist. DIVIDE is currently with my agent, so I hope to have news about that soon. I just finished ARK OF DREAMS—an edgy new adult contemporary, modern day Noah’s Ark redux—and have received some really awesome feedback from my critique partner, as well as my first beta reader. I’m waiting on a few more betas to finish, and then I’ll be doing one more edit and sending ARK off to my agent! I’m so excited about this book and can’t wait to share it with the world!
8.       Is there anything new you’re working on now?
I am planning to begin SUICIDE TREES for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), but aside from the loose plotting I’m doing for that manuscript (mostly in my head, with occasional scribbles on scraps of paper around my office), I’m working on a few editing jobs. November 1st is coming quickly though, so hopefully I’ll be ready to begin SUICIDE TREES!
9.       Do you write every day?
Sometimes. When I’m seriously working on something, I write every morning during the week, and usually all day long. When I’m taking a break to focus on edits for Curiosity Quills, or even my own revisions/edits, I like to keep my personal stories at bay. It’s incredibly hard for me to have the editing side of my brain working at the same time as my creative side, so I am learning how to mute one or the other.
10.   Do you have any animals?
I do! I have two dogs: a Great Dane and a Chihuahua.
11.   Coffee or Tea? Or Both?
Coffee. And sometimes tea, just never to replace coffee.
12.   Is there anything shocking in Evade?
Yes, I think so. I know that my Team Frankie fans will be shocked at one point in the book, and in my personal opinion, the ending of EVADE is more shocking than the ending of EVER. But that’s all I can say about that!
